Blog Post #4
Blogging has become a fun journey for me. Writing a blog helps me with self-reflection and gets me in the frame of mind to think about how I'd like to teach and implement technology in my teaching practices. It also helps loosen up my writing skills as I usually tend to have more to write on as I write. It has helped me and made me consider writing blogs about topics other than just educational technology.
Wiki Spaces Classroom was the Web 2.0 tool that I would enjoy using for my students in the classroom. Wiki Spaces works as a build-your-own Wikipedia, and I would implement it for an English or History project. As a teacher, I can implement this technological tool and utilize its perks of allowing collaboration to spark social interaction and critical thinking in the classroom. Whether it's a country, an important historical event, a playwright, or even an important play, Wiki Spaces offers a way to allow students to show off what they know and allow them to be creative with what they know! Unfortunately, the website closed in 2018, I hope when I teach that either there is a website similar, or maybe even I can try to develop one similar for my students to use.
My experience so far with generative AI has been a beneficial one. I've found it helps when doing homework assignments and writing papers but only as a potential guide or skeleton for what I would actually write. I have noticed it's not 100% accurate and to be honest not even close to that. I do see it becoming a greater issue as technology develops, and hopefully, government regulations can allow generative AI to help us and not harm us.
As for how I would utilize generative AI in my classroom, I would try my best not to. As a future teacher, I want my classroom to have an open and active learning experience and allow room for open discussions that can have the potential for a student to make a mistake here and there. I would want generative AI to be a guide or an educational help in the classroom, but I wouldn't allow students to use generative AI and I would actively make sure the work that students do turn in doesn't have generative AI. While it may help people outside of the classroom, I wouldn't want to abuse its perks in the classroom.
